Doctors’ Role in NCDs
Non Communicable Diseases present quite a lots of challenges to the Doctor’s Fraternity.
- These diseases usually cannot be cured, but can be only controlled
- It is easier and safer to prevent them than trying to cure them or control them
- The Risk Factors for Many diseases are the same. Example, Diabetes and Hypertension can cause Myocardial Infarction, Stroke, Renal Failure, and they are managed by Different Specialities
- The Treatment infrastructure for many of these diseases are same or similar, but since the diseases are managed by different specialities, there is no optimal use of resources, but duplication and subsequent underutilisation of resources
However, there is no Scientific Forum for Experts from Various Specialities to Come Together and Try to Scientifically address the Problems. There is lack of Collaboration between Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Care Providers. There is also a communication Gap between Public and Private Health Care Setups.
These are the Gaps which “Doctors Association for Control of Non Communicable Diseases” plans to address through its aims and objectives
